Inventory Reduction – Let’s Bring Inventory into Balance

Reducing inventory is a journey, not a one-time or traumatic event. It requires management involvement, planning, the establishment of goals, and execution. This presentation is to assist you in finding both traditional techniques, down-to-earth and innovative solutions to assist in bringing inventory into balance. This leads to lower inventory levels, reduced costs, and improved operational performance.
Here are a few topics to be discussed:
- Formulate an effective inventory reduction strategy.
- Maintain a high level of customer service while reducing inventory.
- Prevent or eliminate the accumulation of slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
- Utilize the ABC approach to focus on reducing high-dollar inventory items.

Howard Forman, CPIM, CSCP, CLTD
Howard Forman is president of PIM Associates Inc., a leading provider of operations and supply chain consulting; He has developed over 100 customized courses for education and training. Howard has over 35 years of experience in operations and supply chain management as a practitioner, consultant, and educator. He also assists companies in reducing their inventory levels, improving inventory accuracy, enhance their cycle counting process, and make lean, warehouse, and process improvements.
He has been recognized as a leading provider of APICS CSCP, CLTD, and CPIM certification classes, plus other APICS courses. He teaches APICS certification classes for numerous APICS Chapters and the APICS Society. Howard has conducted over 200 certification and tailored educational classes at over 85 companies in numerous industries. He presented the first CSCP instructor Webinar for the APICS Society. He taught the country's first public CSCP certification and Lean Enterprise Workshop Series class. He has given the APICS MPR and DS&P CPIM certification tutorials at the APICS International Conferences. He was honored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of APICS as its instructor of the year in 2007 through 2011. Also, instructor of the year at the Tappan Zee Chapter of APICS in 2009.
Howard is a frequent speaker at various organizations, including Seminar 1, the 6-Packed Conference, Congress for Progress, DC Expo, the APICS Leadership Institute, APICS chapter meetings, and seminars.
Howard has been a member of APICS since 1977. He has held numerous chapter positions at the APICS Fairfield County, Tappan Zee, and Northern New Jersey Chapters, including Chapter President. He previously served the APICS organization as a member of its board of directors and Region 2 VP.
Howard is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BS and MBA in Business Management. He also taught Operations Management at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
