Topic Description/abstract:
Supply chain sustainability is essential for companies to secure goods and services long term, but it is also important to consumers as questions about environment, labor practices, security and food science are increasingly in the public eye. The speaker will be discussing the broad issues of supply chain sustainability and supply chain traceability, using Divine Chocolate as a case study in one way to achieve sustainability.
With a looming global shortage expected by 2020, the cocoa industry is just one example of how companies need to work closely with their suppliers to ensure that business will be able to continue without major disruptions. Since the majority of cocoa farms are small and family-owned, this presents incredible challenges to industry-wide coordination.
This is a joint event by APICS DC Metro and ISM Northern Virginia
